Exhibition Femke Kock

Until April 16

Explore the cultural diversity of Rotterdam through the eyes of Femke Kock.

Exhibition Femke Kock

A visual tribute to Rotterdam and its meaningful figures and icons.

From January 31 to April 16, 2024, the Euromast provides a stage for artist Femke Kock, where she shares her vision of the rich cultural diversity of Rotterdam through ten unique paintings. Inspired by pop art, street art, and graffiti, Femke brings a creative interpretation with her own colourful style that seamlessly aligns with the dynamic character of the city. The series of paintings are divided into three themes: "Rotterdam Resilience and Renewal," "Cultural Diversity," and "City Icons and Personalities." Each artwork tells a powerful story, from the impressive reconstruction after the devastating Second World War to the icons that adorn the skyline today. The narrative also includes cultural heroes such as Erasmus, Jules Deelder, and Lee Towers in this vibrant collection.

Rotterdam Art Week

The real paintings will be displayed in the restaurant of the Euromast. On the observation platform of the Euromast, the paintings will also be exhibited, but then printed in high quality on aluminum plates.

During Rotterdam Art Week, the genuine works can be viewed in the restaurant on the evening of Wednesday, January 31st. On this evening, the Euromast makes a part of the restaurant available for guests to admire the artworks. This is a unique opportunity because after this event, these real works will only be accessible to restaurant visitors.

The works on the platform, high above Rotterdam, can be viewed by everyone during the opening hours of the Euromast until April 16, 2024!

About Femke

Femke Kock is an artist from Alphen aan den Rijn. Five years ago, she quit her steady job to fully dedicate herself to her career as an artist. In this short time, she has built an impressive portfolio and won multiple awards. Her rendition of the Girl with a Pearl Earring hung in the Mauritshuis, and her works can be found in numerous private collections worldwide—from Tokyo to Paris and everywhere in between. She has also appeared several times on national television with her work, including the show 'Sterren op het doek' (Stars on Canvas). Femke Kock's works are regularly showcased at major art fairs such as EuropArtFair and Art Laren, in Dutch galleries, and at solo exhibitions.

She primarily paints daring, raw portraits that are both expressive and harmonious. Inspired by pop art, street art, and graffiti, she has blended these styles into her own distinctive signature. Her works can be very colorful or dominated by earthy tones, always constructed with multiple layers using various materials such as acrylic paint, spray cans, oil, pastels, and gold leaf (metal leaf and 24K gold leaf). With this, she creates visually appealing paintings that incorporate a recognizable theme, making them both aesthetically pleasing and thought-provoking.

Especially for Euromast, she is painting ten colourful artworks in which she aims to capture her vision of the rich cultural diversity of Rotterdam. Her works pay tribute to Rotterdam and its unique residents, seen through the eyes of a non-Rotterdammer but with a great love for this city.
